This song is a real departure from anything I’ve ever written or recorded. The thought of doing a track with just vocals and percussion was very daunting, particularly when it came to arranging backing vocals, but Nick was insistent and he was right because it really stands out on the album. I’ve always loved call and response vocals so when I heard the expression “that ain’t no mardi gras” in a café somewhere in the Peak District I knew I had the beginnings of a great lyric.
